KK47500 Safari Chair
Designed in 1933 by Kaare Klint, a Danish architect and designer also known as the Father of Modern Danish Furniture. Klint’s award-winning designs focus on craftsmanship, quality materials, and ergonomics, and are exhibited in museums around the world.
The inspiration for this chair came from Klint’s time on safari in Africa. The design is based on the “Roorkhee” chair, a piece of portable military furniture used by the British Army during the Boer War in 1899.
This model features aniline leather with canvas lining, brass fittings, and ash timber components. Both the leather and timber are stamped with a serial number and marked “DENMARK.” This design has been produced by many manufacturers over the years, but due to the markings on this particular piece, I suspect it was manufactured by Rud.
